MHFA is a skills-based training that teaches participants (ages 18+) how to identify, understand, and respond to mental health and substance use challenges. Completion of pre-course work, the live session, and post-course work is required to receive a certificate from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
The class includes sensitive topics; we ask all participants to be respectful, supportive, and maintain confidentiality around any personal experiences shared.
Participants must have internet access and be comfortable using online platforms. After registering, you’ll receive an invitation to MHFA Connect, where you’ll complete pre-class modules and a pre-test. After the live session, you'll take a post-test, short exam, and instructor evaluation to earn your certificate.
What You’ll Learn:
Risk factors and warning signs
Mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and addiction
A 5-step action plan to assist someone in crisis
Where to find help: professional, peer, and self-help resources
The class is interactive, with discussion, exercises, and practice scenarios to help build real-life helping skills.
