Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or returning to your sketchbook, this 4-week series (Jan 13, 20, 27, Feb 3 from 6–8 pm) will take you step-by-step through the building blocks of drawing—starting with how we see and ending with how we reinterpret what we see.
Presenting the World
In this classic drawing class, we'll move from sketches to more developed representational drawings—working on composition, shape relationships, and refining what we see into dynamic finished pieces.
This class is best for students with observational drawing experience, preferably modeled drawing. If you have any questions about whether this class is right for you, please get in touch at hello@thatcreativespace.org.
Students will receive a material list one week before the class start date.
About the Instructor
Taught by Carinda Swann, former Executive Director of Garrison Art Center. Carinda taught basic drawing and 2D design at Marist College for 15 years and has also taught at Dutchess Community College. She founded the Summer Institute at Garrison Art Center—a three-week immersive program for serious high school artists—and served as a teaching artist. She holds an MFA in Fine Arts with a focus on drawing and sculpture. In Beacon, she serves on the planning team of ROLL-OUT Beacon, a free community-wide event where artists create large-scale woodblocks that are printed with a steamroller.
